COVID-19's Impact on Working From Home Culture

After speaking with several co-workers about working from home, what they liked and didn’t like, if they were eager to get back in the office, and how often they’d ideally work in an office setting moving forward, I got curious about the wider population.

I reached out to my co-workers and posted on LinkedIn looking for anyone working from home to give their opinion on the change in work environment. So thank you to everyone who responded, and now we finally get to take a look at the results!

Here are my main takeaways:

While half of people weren’t working from home at all before COVID-19, with 95.3% moving to working from home full time, most (61%) enjoyed working from home.

Volume of meetings seemed to increase (50%) or stay the same (26.6%). Emails also seemed to increase, but at an almost equal rate of 51.5%, or stay the same (34.4%).

Most people felt that they were equally as productive working from home as they were working from an office (45.4%), with nearly half (43.8%) actually claiming higher productivity.

The sweet spot moving forward for most people seems to be working from home 3 days a week and working in the office 2 days a week (45.3%), closely followed by the opposite, working from home 2 days a week and from the office 3 days a week (28.1%). However, most people felt that their company would only allow working from home 2 days per week (48.4%).

If you’re interested in taking the survey yourself, you can fill it out here. It only takes 60 seconds, and if I get enough additional responses I’ll post a follow-up with the updated numbers.
