A Day Trip to Kilkenny
So a couple of weeks ago I had a little day trip to Kilkenny with Killian's mom. I didn't take a ton of pictures, and they're all on my phone, but it was so pretty that I had to share!
We started off with some coffee and cakes at this little café that you can kind of see at the right of the pub above (which we later went to)
Our first stop (and where we spent most of our time) was the castle. It was my favourite non-ruin castle I've been to!
They had this genealogy tapestry, which I've never seen before. It was so unbelievably cool!
My favourite room was the gallery. Not for the art that was displayed, but for the ceiling!
All of the ceiling is original except for the skylights. The glass was originally green, to help filter light so that the paintings didn't fade. The glass is new now, and has UV protection along with the curtains over top. But all of the paint is original, which is so amazing. There were so many different styles from Celtic to Asian. Everything was so elaborate. Imagine the colours when it was first painted.
After looking through some shops we walked back to the pub I first mentioned. There were so many cute alleys and storefronts!
We had lunch at the pub. I went for Irish stew, which is one of my faves.
And that was it! Aside from the drive to Arklow, this was definitely the most scenic. There were a ton of ruins on the side of the road from churches to an old mill. I wanted to stop at every single one of them! Check back for my day trip to Wexford coming up next.
